Mary Jane “Cookie” Fujiyama, 73, of Hilo died Sept. 23 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a housewife. Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 6) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial 2 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire. Roy Dale Hall, 68, of Kalapana died Sept. 10 at home after a battle with lung cancer. Born in Dallas, he was a finish carpenter, combat-wounded U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran, surfer, and founded a veterans’ stand-up paddleboard group at Reeds Bay. Celebration of life 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at Pohoiki. Paddle-out ceremony noon. In his honor and to help his fellow veterans, the family is calling for an improvement in veterans’ services in Hawaii.
